COMMONWEALTH gold medallists Dorcus Inzikuru (3000m steeplechase) and Boniface Kiprop (10000m) will take time off their training in the Kenyan high altitude camps to light up the MTN national trial in Tororo tomorrow.
The fourth national trial will also mark the World Athletics Day. There will be competition in a record 52 events.
Inzikuru, training in Iten, and Kiprop who is training at Kiptagat, have all confirmed their participation. The two stars are preparing to travel to Europe and Asia for a series of international grand prix races.
Inzikuru, the national 5000m (15:05.3) record holder, will not participate in her favourite 3000m steeplechase, but will take on other stars Christine Muneria and Jane Suuto in the 5000m event.
Boniface Kiprop, the national 5000m (12:58.43) and 10000m (26:39.77) record holder, will take on Isaac Kiprop, who beat him at the national Cross country championships in Entebbe in February.
“They have been training hard and they are all looking forward to the event. More athletes are coming from Kapchorwa,” said Kiprop’s manager Godfrey Nuwagaba.
A one-week basic coaching and officiating course being conducted by Faustin Kiwa and Okot Omwony, ends today in Tororo.

  • LILIAN Badaru leaves today for a training stint in France, courtesy of Club Boulogne Athletics.
Badaru, an upcoming distance runner with Arua Athletics Club, will travel with Nicholas Kiprono and Dominic Towett on the invitation of Club Boulogne’s manager Deris Prudhone.
Prudhone has been monitoring them at high altitude training in Kenya. They will also compete in a number of races to get international exposure.
