For at least four days, the public can have unlimited fun at Ndere Centre in Ntinda.

This time round, it is not the routine weekly themes on the list; the cultural centre is hosting an enormous number of diverse artistes competing in music, dance, drama, product exhibition and technology demonstration.

Over 1,004 artistes are taking part in the festival. “This festival helps little-known artistes to get some exposure, which they dreadfully need,” said Stephen Rwangyezi, the founder and executive director of Ndere Centre.

The festival, dubbed “Kwetu Fest”, has attracted numerous local and international participants from Austria, Netherlands, UK, USA, Italy, India, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. However, the foreign artistes will not compete. Various Ugandan tribes are featuring at the festival, with 42 groups representing 38 tribes.

Under the theme “Determined to achieve well-being peacefully”, Kwetu Fest kicked off yesterday and ends on Sunday, May 7 with an award-giving ceremony. Gates open daily from 9:00am to 11:00pm. The entrance fee is sh2,000, while special events go for sh10,000.
The bi-annual festival is in its sixth edition, since its debut in 1997. Unlike the past festivals, this year’s will be spiced by an African beauty pageant.

The pageant takes place tomorrow from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Each group will have one contestant competing.
