BRIGADIER Sam Kolo, the former spokesman of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, has apologised for the atrocities the LRA meted on Teso people in 2003.

“What took place in Teso after the LRA incursion was not a good thing. I would like to apologise to the people of Teso on my behalf and on behalf of former LRA combatants who have come back.

I beg for forgiveness. War is very destructive in terms of lives and property,” Kolo pleaded during the Great North Peace Forum at People’s Guest House in Soroti on Wednesday.

Kolo was accompanied by Lt. Col. John Otim and Lt. Charles Otim Munu, both former rebel commanders.

Local government officials, religious leaders and NGOs from Acholi sub-region, Lango region, Teso region and Karamoja attended the meeting.

The Northern Uganda Peace Initiative sponsored the meeting, geared towards establishing and formulating regional peace forums in Teso, Lango, Karamoja and Acholi regions.

Meanwhile, defence lawyers in the treason trial of Col. Kizza Besigye on Thursday rejected as State witness former LRA commander Alfred Onen Kamdulu. They said Kamdulu had ochestrated crimes against humanity.
