THE third edition of the Red Cross Charity Golf tournament slated for May 27 at Kitante course is targeting sh30m to help expectant women in the Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP) camps.

“In 2004 we raised sh10m and last year we managed to get sh24m. This time we are targeting sh30m,” Uganda Red Cross Public Relations Officer Lydia Mirembe said.

The tournament that will have more than 50 teams from corporations in the country is organised by Uganda Golf Club (UGC) women section in conjunction with theRed Cross.

The money will be raised through entry fees for the teams and auctioning of items at the prize-giving ceremony. In kind support will also be sought from individual competitors.

The charity tournament is part of the ‘Mama Bag Appeal’ activities spearheaded by the Red Cross for the pregnant women in Northern Uganda.

“Throughout the year individuals bring their contributions. Some companies organise fundraising events and bring us the money,” Mirembe said.
