Defence minister Ruth Nankabirwa has lashed out at outgoing Luweero district chairman Hajj Abdul Nadduli (right) for not attending the swearing-in ceremony of his successor, Ronald Ndawula, on Monday.
Nankabirwa, the chief guest at the function, said Nadduli, who neither sent an apology nor a representative, lacked tolerance for his opponents.
“How can a whole district movement chairman fail to turn-up to hand over. I wish he was around to hear my words,” Nankabirwa said at the district sports ground.
Ndawula, an independent, sailed through unopposed after Nadduli, who stood on an NRM ticket, was disqualified for lack of academic qualifications.
A cross-section of NRM supporters, including katikamu North MP Abraham Byandaala, also stayed away although they were invited.
Nankabirwa said politicians in Buganda were not tolerant of their opponents. “In Gulu ,when Mao won (the LC5 chief), Walter Ochora (former Gulu seat), hugged and congratulated him.
“But such a thing can not happen in Buganda. Here we have a tendency of pulling down whoever wants to climb,” she said.
Nankabirwa urged NRM supporters to cooperate to strengthen the party.
She told Ndawula to desist from leaving out those who did not support him.
