Kisiizi Hospital in Rukungiri district is to construct a hydro-power project at over sh1.2b, according to the Energy for Rural Transformation (ERT) programme of the Ministry of Local Government.
Cris Magoba reports that the project is meant to increase power output of the existing dam from 60KW to 300Kw.
Ministry of Local Government ERT consultant Dr. Caleb Tamwesigire told a workshop for district leaders recently that the project was one of the government’s priorities, with support from the World Bank.
“The project will cost US$690,000 and the government will contribute US$421,000,” Tamwesigire said.
The project will supply power to the trading centres neighbouring the hospital within a radius of 10km.
