ARUA — The Arua chief administrative officer (CAO) has cautioned the new LC5 councillors to expect less allowances and emoluments because of dwindling local revenue collections. Addressing the councillors after they were sworn-in at the council chambers on Friday, Abdul Isodo said resources from the district had gone down due to difficulties in collecting the different local taxes.

LCs told
KAMPALA — Local councillors (LCs) should encourage every household to plant at least one acre of trees as an income-generating project and a measure to replenish the environment, the former western regional inspector of schools has said. In a statement on Monday, Phinehas Nyenda said LCs should invite MPs and ministers to encourage the people to plant trees. He asked the government to invite staff from Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute to train residents about growing fruits.

Officials visit
JINJA — Thirty officials from the municipality are on a one-week tour of West Nile region to exchange ideas with their counterparts on ways of implementing local government development programmes. The group, that left on Sunday, led by mayor Muhammed Baswale Kezaala, includes councillors and technical staff from the three divisions of Jinja: Central, Mpumudde and Walukuba. Town clerk Jofram Waidhuba said the officials would visit Nebbi, Arua district and Arua municipality.
