Tenants on the Kabaka’s land will with immediate effect pay sh82,000 to be registered by KK Land and Property Management Company.

Tenants on the Kabaka’s land will with immediate effect pay sh82,000 to be registered by KK Land and Property Management Company.

Josephine Maseruka writes that Katikkiro Dan Muliika made the directive in a statement on Wednesday, signed by his permanent secretary T. B. Kisawuzi.

This follows the March 18 halting of the registration exercise by Mengo officials who claimed that there were unscrupulous people who had hijacked the project to tarnish Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s image.

It was the second time the company was stopped from registering tenants. In 2004, then Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere halted the registration following public outcry.

Muliika said the new measures will first be effected in Makindye Ssabagabo as a pilot project before spreading to other areas.

He said the exercise would involve mapping out boundaries, advising tenants to be officially known to the landlord (Kabaka) and to help those with expired leases to renew them as well as attracting more tenants to lease the land.

Tenants will be issued with receipts.
