THE majority of the women staying at the landing sites in Masaka district especially those from the neighbouring countries, do not use toilets because of their cultural restrictions, an official has said.
District fisheries officer Tom Bukenya was addressing environmental activists led by Makerere University mass communication department head, Goretti Nassanga, on a study tour of fishing villages in the district.
Bukenya said on Wednesday that it was taboo for the Luo women from Kenya to use toilets and that they use polythene bags, which are later dumped in the lake.
