SHADRACK Kantinti engineered a near clean sweep as Uganda moved up the ladder with a fourth win at the chess Olympiad on Saturday.

Kantinti, making a fourth appearance at the bi-annual show, outwitted FIDE master Jorge Montesinos on board 2 in Turin, Italy.

Kantinti’s success came after board 1 player Stephen Kawuma drew with Roberto Zamora whose team is ranked 120.

Moses Kawuma ensured victory for Uganda, ranked 117, by beating Ismael Ochoa on board 4 after his colleague Isaac Munanira lost to Ricardo Medina on board 3.

The win, coming after three draws and five defeats, pushed Uganda’s tally to 21 points while Honduras are eight steps below on 20.5.

Armenia who are ranked 3, are the event’s leading team with 34 points. China, ranked 12, are second with 31.5.
