A high level of emotional intelligence is a natural gift that occurs to few people. Although there are people who are better endowed with high emotional intelligence by virtue of their personality, psychologists believe that we can improve our emotional intelligence. Let’s share some tips:
lBe honest with yourself. Accept your negative feelings and deal with them.
lConversation is more than just talking. Sometimes people expect you to listen as they talk, feel what they feel and show them that you are there for them. This is called emotional sensitivity.
lLearn good listening and communication skills. Do not interrupt when somebody is talking. Show respect for other people’s opinions and do not expect your ideas to be the best at all times.
lIt would be difficult for you to manage your relationship with other people unless you can manage yourself. Self management skills entail time management, emotional control, and ability to carry out your tasks responsibly. Keeping appointments, apologizing whenever you go wrong, saying the right thing at the right time and being able to accept others with their weaknesses.
lThere is something positive in each person. Accentuate the positive in people. Have something to smile about even in the worst situations. Remember, if you smile at the world, the world will not only smile back, but will also open its doors to you.
lContinuity is the law of the game, never give up. Persistence makes people with high emotional intelligence to succeed where others fail.
lFind something positive to compliment other people for. Inspire and make others feel good about themselves while maintaining your own sense of personal worth.
lConquering the world begins with believing that you can. Improving your emotional intelligence takes time and patience. Each day presents an opportunity to learn a new emotional skill.
