UGANDA justified their prowess over neighbours Kenya when they lifted the Atul Shah Memorial cricket cup in a thrilling final at Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday.

The Ugandans achieved the magnificent feat when they dismissed Kenya by 47 runs to win their major title on Kenyan soil.

They proved that their three wickets victory in an earlier match over the fancied Kenyans was not a fluke.

Captain of the U-19 team, Hamza Saleh and Frank Nsubuga led Uganda to cup victory with 39 runs each to their credit while Benjamin Musoke hit 24 as Uganda set a target of 186.

Kenya’s spinner, Rajesh Mbuthia was a thorn in the flesh for Uganda’s batsmen, snatching three wickets for 30 with Ashish Karia (2-30) and Jadavi Laxman (2-20) following suit.

With a lower target set by Uganda appearing an easy mission to achieve, Kenya’s bid were jolted by spinner, Akhbar Baig who destroyed the top-order batsmen, snatching three wickets for 32 for man- of- the match award.

Uganda was unbeaten in the four-day event that attracted four teams - Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Coast combined.

Uganda beat Kenya by three wickets in the opening match. They beat Coast XI by 53 runs before hammering Tanzania by six wickets to book a ticket with Kenya in the final.

Hosts Coast finished third after beating Tanzania in a play-off.

Wanderers v Patidar (w/o)

Rounders CC’s batting, which has proved their biggest undoing in the Castle Lager League again misfired as they succumbed to a seven wicket defeat against Nile at Lugogo on Sunday.

Nile, that had lost to Wanderers, JACC and Tornado B previously, clicked with all-rounder Martin Ondeko (50) scoring their first half-century in the league chasing a modest 98 for victory.
