THE AIDS Health Care Foundation has donated $10,000 (about sh18m) to the Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO).

Janet Museveni, wife of the President and patron of UWESO, received the money on Monday at State Lodge, Nakasero, from the AIDS Health Care Foundation director of Operations in charge of the African Bureau, Dennis Ahairwe, a State House statement said.

The donation is to support the Migyera UWESO Technical Institute in Nakasongola district, which offers technical and vocational training to orphans and disadvantaged children.

The First Lady expressed gratitude to the organisation, saying the donation was a timely intervention for the disadvantaged children. She said UWESO appreciated the organisation’s work, especially in AIDS prevention, treatment and care.

Janet said there was need to extend HIV/AIDS treatment to rural areas.

Meanwhile, Janet yesterday met with a visiting Canadian-based children’s charity, the “Sleeping Children Around the World.”

The NGO’s president, Grant Clark, briefed Janet on the support it extends to organisations that look after children.
