EXPRESS FC’s inconsistent second round performances suggest this year’s league title could go to the wire and with the outcome far from predictable.

The Red Eagles, who made the second half of the league season boasting an asylum lead at the top, have following their fourth consecutive stalemate to Masaka LC on Saturday, made the title race an intriguing prospect.

Masaka threw the league championship race wide open when George Otika’s 13 minute strike ensured Tony Odur’s equalizer could do little to salvage the Red Army.

The Red Eagles now top the table by just a point ahead of URA, who could take over if they win their game in hand.

Dropping eight points in the course of four weeks, has not gone down well with the red army, who made their ill-feelings known in Masaka—booing off coach George Ssimogerere.

Ssimoegerere said: “I know those fans trying to sabotage my efforts but they will not succeed. I have been at this club for seven months and changed a lot of things here. We are still top of the table so I don’t see why I should be sacrificed for a draw away.”

The race for the title also literally became a two-horse affair after third-placed KCC FC was consigned to a 1-0 defeat by Kinyara in Masindi.

The Lugogo-based outfit remain third on the table with 40 points, nine away from leaders Express.

At Wankulukuku yesterday, Kenyan import Costa Kadenge’s brace helped former champions SC Villa to beat 10-man Bunnamwaya 2-0 and lift the side to fourth.
