IT is all set. One hundred years of Kings College Budo come to a head on Friday June 30, as celebrations to mark the school’s centenary start. Befittingly, it all starts with a kasiki, a dinner dance at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel’s Rwenzori Ballroom.
Old Budonians from several generations and dozens of countries will get together with parents and well wishers to kick off the celebrations.
According to Dr Edward Kayondo, the chief mobiliser, Old Budonians Club, the occasion presents a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share and relive their days at Budo.
Kayondo says at the dinner, the Chief Guest, the Nnabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, will launch a book, Who is who from Budo 1906 – 2006, written by Dr Kayondo.
A magazine, Memories of Budo, will also be launched by the new ICT minister, Dr Ham Mulira.
On Sunday July 2, the main celebrations will kick off at 8:00am at the school. The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi II, will be the guest-of-honour, and officially commission the swimming pool, which is still under construction and a computer laboratory.
The celebrations close on July 9 with a church service at Namirembe Cathedral at 3:00pm. The Prime Minister, Apollo Nsibambi will be the guest-of-honour.
