it’s all about Georgie and Ham

The unthinkable happened to mahogany. The Vice-President, Gilbert Bukenya, was upstaged at his daughter’s wedding by the artiste Stevie Wonder who was not even at the wedding. Why? When it was time for the bride, Georgina Nabukenya Kyolaba Bukenya, to dance with her father, it was to Wonder’s classic hit, isn’t she lovely. And she was lovely all throughout the day – right from church to the moment she took to the dance floor with her husband, Ham Damian Mago Namakajo.
In Bukenya’s home, there is a spare room in the offing. However, if that spare room is to be occupied, the new occupant will have a tall order to meet. A tall order because in the words of Bukenya, Georgina was very organised. She knew what she was doing right down to telling him to sort out his wardrobe.
Though Georgina has found a new home, according to the whispers of some of the guests, Bukenya has not lost a daughter but has gained a worthy son in the form of Namakajo. Namakajo, unlike at the kwanjula a week ago, was in fine form. He had a glint throughout the lavish reception at Speke Resort and Country Lodge Munyonyo on Saturday. Of course he had to have the glint because after three years of dating Georgina, the word dating ceased to be. She was now his wife.
There was of course the small video show that charted the lives of both Georgina and Ham and once that was done, there was an array of artistes from Sweet Kid to Angela Kalule to provide entertainment.
The guest list was pretty impressive. President Yoweri Museveni at church at Lubaga Cathedral and at the reception, Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi, minister Daudi Migereko, Sudhir Ruparelia and former WBS starlet Tilly Muwonge, to name but a few.
With every wedding, there are people behind the scene, who make things happen and ensure the day is a success. For this wedding, the likes of Paul Kaheru, Peter ‘Smalls’ Kawuma, Bakadde Kiwanuka, Michael Bageine and the rest of the committee members, did a sterling job that was appreciated by all present. And on that day, a friend was married. The one he or she laughs with, lives for, dreams with and loves. Like Matthew 6:12 says, “For where your treasure is, your heart will also be.” And so the hearts of Ham and Georgina came to rest.
