Kassim Mawejje, 38, is on the road to prosperity after winning a Toyota Hiace at the launch of Jose Chameleone’s latest album, Shida Za Dunia, at Gaba Beach last Sunday. Mawejje, a supervisor with Mukwano AK Plastics, became the lucky winner after a five-year-old boy was blindfolded and told to pick a ticket from a basket.

As his name was called out, an excited Mawejje became speechless and his wife started screaming.

Before handing over the key and card to Mawejje, Chameleone told him not to change anything on the vehicle until the year ends. The vehicle is decorated with Leone Island (Chameleone’s studio) logos.

Mawejje said he had been reluctant to attend the launch, adding that he only did it because his wife, Maureen Mbabazi, insisted that they attend.

“This is one of the miracles they always tell us God does,” said a jovial Mawejje, who also won a bicycle during a British American Tobacco promotion in 2003.

Mawejje was born two weeks after his father’s death. His mother struggled to see him through primary school after which she left him on his own. After secondary school, he joined Elgon Technical College, Mbale, where he got an advanced diploma in technical education. He first got a job with Munobwa Tea Factory in Fort Portal. When he came to Kampala, he joined Roadmaster Cycles Industries before joining Mukwano AK Plastics.
