If Nicholas Nyombi, a local Gospel music promoter, is to be believed, we could be having the first independent national gospel music awards – the Victoria Gospel Awards (VIGA).

These will be the third Gospel music awards after the Impact FM Annual Music Awards (IAMA) and Top Radio National Gospel Awards.

Nyombi is the chief executive officer of Ark Royale Limited, a local Gospel Promotions Company that has promoted some of the biggest Gospel concerts in Uganda for the past seven years.

VIGA intends to award musicians in 28 categories, among which are song of the year, artiste of the year, male vocalist, female vocalist, best video, album of the year and best artist from the diaspora. The lifetime achievement will be awarded to individuals or groups with outstanding accomplishments in gospel over time.

Some categories in the VIGA will be subjected to public voting, while a panel of judges will determine others.

“Intending participants will submit work in their categories, both in video and audio form, from which the best four will be nominated,” says Nyombi.
