Doctor’s issues
THE doctor of the deceased Supreme Court Judge Arthur Oder has a bone to pick with lawyers. While giving his report on the cause of death, Dr Edward Kigonya took a swipe against the learned friends, hitting them where it hurts. “I have come here to bury another patient of mine as a friend. We (doctors) don’t call them clients as lawyers do. We don’t call ourselves learned friends as the lawyers, we call ourselves educated friends,” Kigonya said, breaking the sombre mood with laughter. It would be good to know why Dr Kigonya chose to express his controversial thoughts at a gathering of the most senior lawyers in the country.

Report on poverty
A report on poverty conducted in Sironko, Kumi, Mbale and Pallisa districts says 30% of the people interviewed had lost hope of getting out of poverty. The report notes that government officials were using old data to fight poverty. Simons Okalebo, the principal for Centre for Africa Capacity Enhancement, an NGO that compiled the report entitled Poverty is Powerlessness: Who are the poor in Eastern Uganda, said 90% of the people did not know what government policies were in place to fight poverty.

Malinga faithful
Health minister Dr Stephen Malinga has advised Ugandans to regularly test for HIV/Aids. During a press conference at the Ministry of Health office in Wandegeya, Malinga said he flies to the US to get an HIV/Aids test every year. He urged the people to use the ABC strategy in fighting HIV/Aids. The ABC strategy stands for abstinence from sex, being faithful and using condoms. Malinga was quick to add that he uses the B strategy. “I am faithful to my wife,” he said causing laughter.

Nadduli’s tantrum

Former Luweero LC5 chairman Haji Abdu Nadduli is angry with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for “duping him, yet he contributed much in the 1980 Movement liberation struggle”. “The party is supposed to help out its members who are in problems, I am also disgusted by the allegations that I lack academic qualifications,” Nadduli said at Nakaseke MP Hajati Sayda Bbumba’s party at Nakaseke recently. He added, “Otafiire, have you forgotten our days in the bush? Is it because of the support I give Buganda that I am being penelised?”
