AUTHORITIES in Walukuba/Masese in Jinja municipality are disappointed with the shoddy work done by construction companies in the division.

Addressing journalists recently, LC3 chairman Musisi Kibugujju said many school buildings were sub-standard, which he said endangered the lives of pupils and teachers.

He cited Lake Site Primary School in Masese that was temporarily closed because of cracked, poorly built classrooms and latrines.

“Walls of newly-built classroom blocks shake whenever it rains, a latrine that was recently handed over is about to collapse. We have written to the relevant people but there is no response,” he said.

Kibugujju, however, said the school was re-opened after two days following complaints from parents but the division ordered the authorities to rectify the work that was done haphazardly.

He said the situation in schools on Kisima Islands, located on Lake Victoria, was similar to that of Lake Site.

He said though Lake Site was re-opened for the benefit of the over 1,000 pupils, especially the P.7 candidates, the contractors were given a deadline to rectify the anomaly or face legal action.
