Former assistant resident district commissioner for Nakapiripirit John Bosco Odoki has been appointed manager of Pader Cooperative Savings and Credit Society Limited after an interview on June 30, 2006. Silvia Onen Lamunu, the chairperson of the society, on Monday said she was optimistic that Odoki, being a trained cadre, would mobilise the local population and take the institution to greater heights.

MOYO: Council pushes
The district has postponed the passing of the 2006/7 budget to July 12 due to what they called massive budget cuts by the ministry of Finance. The LC5 chairman, Peter Iku Dolo, said they had planned to pass a sh9b budget but the council rejected it because the central government had reduced the estimates to sh6b. He said funds to the education and primary healthcare sectors had also been cut.

Lira: NGO boosted
Caritas Lira Diocese has received sh40m from the Good Shepherd Foundation in the Netherlands to fight poverty in Lango. The project will help the people to organise themselves in groups to start income generating activities. Speaking on Wednesday, the director Caritas Lira, Father Robert Omara, said the project was intended to set up small businesses in the community. He said the project would also encourage people to begin saving so that they can plan for themselves and their families.


YUMBE: Banks urged
The business community and civil servants have appealed to the banking sector to open branches in the town. Residents who need banking services have to travel to Arua district. Assistant chief administrative officer Sulai Ejosiga said they had tried to lure banks in vain.

GULU: Official hails
Resident district commissioner Col. Walter Ochora has hailed President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to grant Kony and his commanders amnesty. He was speaking on a talk-show on Mega FM on Saturday.
