ANNETE Kabasindi will have a go at her national record at the first national field championships in Gulu today.

The event, named after national javelin record holder Justin Arop 75.52m, will also see Arop’s son Raymond Otim compete.

“I have been busy with exams but now I am free. I think I will be throwing a better distance,” said the javelin ace, whose national record is at 51.75.

Kabasindi, who has just completed her Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences at Kampala International University (KIU), will be among the many stars set to spice up the inaugural Justine Arop Memorial meet at Pece Stadium.

She is expected to be joined by, among other stars, triple jumper Geoffrey Okello of the Surgery’s athletics club and Makerere long jumper Mildred Gamba.

A few track events will be held to spice up the championship with middle distance star Simon Ayeko the main attraction. The only races will be the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m.

National triple jump record holder Justine Bayiga (12.28m) is out of the meet, organised by the UAF, due to an injury.

Local stars Wilson Okanya, Emily Nanziri and Dennis Jonyera are expected to give the Kampala-based athletes stiff competition.
