KABAKA Ronald Mutebi’s government wants Queen Elizabeth II and her delegation to visit Buganda kingdom’s historical sites and cultural exhibitions.

KABAKA Ronald Mutebi’s government wants Queen Elizabeth II and her delegation to visit Buganda kingdom’s historical sites and cultural exhibitions, writes Josephine Maseruka.

The queen will attend the Commonwealth heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November 2007.

The idea of the queen visiting Mengo was mooted by the kingdom culture minister, Arthur Bagunywa and discussed by the Buganda cabinet.

Information minister Jimmy Bakyayita Ssemugabi last week said at first they wanted to channel their request through the British government and the commonwealth but they were later advised to go through the central government.

“The responsible minister is planning to put in our request to the government to include us in the CHOGM plans,” Ssemugabi said.

Mengo wants the queen to visit Bulange, the Kasubi tombs, the Mengo palace and the Kabaka’s lake at Rubaga.
