Parliament Speaker Edward Ssekandi has said MPs will use every opportunity to analyse and understand each other’s political views being guided by tolerance, writes Patrick Jaramogi.

Ssekandi said this in a speech read by urban planning state minister Urban Tibamanya at a dinner organised by the Netherlands ambassador, Yoka Brandt.

The dinner at Brandt’s residence in Kampala on Tuesday was in honour of Always Be Tolerant (ABETO) for their continued effort in preaching peace and tolerance in society.

“I appreciate the partnership between Uganda and our development partners who are supporting ABETO in this noble mission. We assure the ambassador that members of the Eighth parliament will view others’ political views based on tolerance and patriotism,” Ssekandi said.

He said peace and tolerance was crucial in the urbanisation process, adding, “This is a process that involves so many challenges related to land, poverty, health, shelter and other amenities that make life worth living.”

He said in the process of urbanising, that involves re-designing and re-planning towns, some people’s toes may be stepped on, “but we call for tolerance.”

Ssekandi said ABETO’s Peace and Tolerance flag at Parliament reminds MPs to always be tolerant, understanding, acco-mmodating and respect each other’s opinion.

Brandt urged the guests who included several MPs to support ABETO in its efforts to preach peace.

ABETO chief Moses Musana said, “For 40 years we have been bickering and wasting time. Let’s forget the past and start a new chapter. Let us put our efforts together for a better, stronger and richer Uganda.”
