URA FC’s march towards their first league title was brought to a screeching halt over the weekend after Police and Express FC restored their status as credible contenders with valuable wins.

URA FC’s march towards their first league title was brought to a screeching halt over the weekend after Police and Express FC restored their status as credible contenders with valuable wins.
Police’s 5-0 thrashing of Victor on Saturday and a Hassan Mubiru-inspired 1-0 away victory for the Red Eagles against Mbale Heroes had table leaders URA’s lead trimmed to a sizeable margin after the tax collectors could only draw 1-1 against SC Villa on Friday.
At a stage when the three title challengers – Police, URA and Express will face the other opposition with similar force, intensive defending will be significant but might not be as decisive as forwards will prove.
It’s for this very reason that Police are already cheerful ahead of their three remaining fixtures.
The league defending champions have gathered nine goals in just two of their previous games, while Express one and URA three.
“When you are scoring like we are doing, you have to be confident,†Police captain David Yiga pointed.
In Dan Walusimbi, Police possess a terrific forward, whose enthusiasm for the top scorer’s accolade has been rewarded with 15 goals.
With his counterpart Mike Sserumaga at 11, there seems little prospect of his team allowing the title slip without a fight.
“The three are in terrific form. Dan (Walusimbi), Peter (Ssenyonjo) and Mike (Sserumaga) will be important for us,†Yiga hinted.
URA will certainly demand a lot more firepower from veterans David Kiwanuka and Sam Naduli, who have managed just 13 between this season.
Mubiru at nine will similarly have to be shored up with the likes of Tony Odur.
