KABAKA Mutebi has hailed the late Rebecca Muliira, co-founder of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Uganda, as a distinguished figure in women’s emancipation.
“I feel privileged to honour a very distinguished Ugandan. muliira led a very rich and active life. we all know her achievements in women’s organisations. Mrs Muliira also played a significant role in the Buganda royal family,” Mutebi said during the unveiling of the rebecca Mulira sculpture at the Rebecca Muliira Resource Centre at the YWCA headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday.
Mutebi said she was one of his counsellors in trying moments.
“I would ask her, ‘how are we going to handle this?’ but she would say, ‘you step aside and will tussle it out!’” he said.
