Seventy-eight percent of girls in Mayuge district are married off when they are barely 15 years, the district chairperson, Bakali Ikoba Tigawalana, has said.

Seventy-eight percent of girls in Mayuge district are married off when they are barely 15 years, the district chairperson, Bakali Ikoba Tigawalana, has said.
He regretted that often parents take the girls out of school and marry them off in order to get gifts, such as goats, chicken and money from the in-laws.
“The situation has reached an alarming proportion,†he said on Sunday while addressing residents of Malongo in Mayuge district.
