Emulate KIU

KAMPALA International University (KIU) is offering two scholarships per district to enable needy students pursue undergraduate programmes at the private institution. This is a good gesture worth emulating by other universities – both public and private.

KAMPALA International University (KIU) is offering two scholarships per district to enable needy students pursue undergraduate programmes at the private institution. This is a good gesture worth emulating by other universities – both public and private.

Thousands of qualified students fail to join universities annually due to their inability to afford fees.

While the Government has introduced the district quota system to try to address the imbalances that characterise higher education, only 800 students in public universities benefit from the system. KIU’s innovation will enable over 150 poor students access university education.

If the four public universities and the private universities did the same, more than 2,000 disadvantaged students would access university education. The Government could in return offer some incentives to such universities.
