BATA has reduced production by half due to the rampant loadshedding.
“The power outages have affected our manufacturing plant in Kampala. We produce about 1,200 pairs of shoes daily, below our capacity of above 2,000. There is high demand for the shoes, so we supplement it by imports from sister companies,†Paul Jakubec, the managing director, said.
Jakubec refuted recent media reports that they were closing the Kampala plant and said they were refocusing their business to cover retail, wholesale and export customers.
“Sometimes the trouble is finding premises convenient for customers,†he said.
