THE Mengo government has received money from the World Bank, the Katikkiro, Dan Muliika, has said.

Muliika said the funds would be used for construction of international hotels, cultural and research centres in order to promote tourism.

He said this recently at the closure of Buganda’s cultural and trade exhibition at Kalagala Falls in Kangulumira sub-county, Kayunga.

Celtel, MTN, Century Bottling Company, Nile Breweries, Crown Bottlers, Uganda Breweries, over 40 farmers groups and other small-scale companies also exhibited.

Muliika said because the Mengo government has no powers to collect taxes, it decided to get involved in such business ventures to raise the kingdom’s daily income.

“We want encroachers to leave our land as soon as possible to avoid inconveniences. We want to develop our land,” he said.

Muliika said over 300 international hotels, 600 recreation centres and over 200 modern cultural centres would be constructed in various parts of Buganda Kingdom especially where there is market.
He advised the exhibitors to be job-creators.
