KIU closes in on MTN basketball play-offs

KAMPALA International University (KIU) inched closer to securing an MTN basketball league playoff berth with an 82-57 triumph over Najja High on Saturday at the Pool Court.

KAMPALA International University (KIU) inched closer to securing an MTN basketball league playoff berth with an 82-57 triumph over Najja High on Saturday at the Pool Court.

With this result, KIU earned a sixth season victory in the Yello Max conference, moving to fifth place having bumped Charging Rhinos into sixth position on the table standings.

Najja had surprisingly led 18-15 after one quarter, before late comer Isaac Afidra stepped on in the second period to secure seven consecutive rebounds and assist in the team’s execution of 13 un-answered points to effectively take the lead and put away the game.

Afidra hit three 3-pointers and scored 21 points in the second and third quarters which ended with KIU ahead by a comfortable 52-35 margin.
Danson Ngati paced Najja High with 17 points.

Meanwhile, Immaculate Chocho connected on 5-of-7 field goals and added three steals to earn Crane High a hard-fought 52-50 overtime victory over MUK-Cubs.
Trailing by over 12 points in the first half, Crane high countered with a 20-4 run to narrow the deficit and even the score at 46-46 at the final whistle and force overtime.

In games played Friday at Lugogo, Falcons maintained pole position on the table after a 59-55 win over Rhinos, while MUK-Sparks were 54-44 losers to Lady Bucks in the women game.
