SIR — The recent story in the press about Parliament meddling in Dairy Corporation takeover is disturbing! Parliament is it at again! They literally killed Uganda Airlines when their meddling stopped British Airways from taking over the way KLM has done with KQ.

Now, they want to kill the dairy industry! I will volunteer some basic information about the Sameer Group. If they want corroboration, let them send any of them to Nairobi, stop anybody on the street and ask them what Sameer and Merali mean in Kenya or check with the High Commission in Nairobi. The Sameer Group employs over 18,000 Kenyans in their various companies, all with Mr Naushad Merali as the core investor and majority shareholder.
Merali is a successful industrialist who is now focusing on East Africa, with priority in Uganda. We should be grateful to James Mulwana who interested Merali in investing in Uganda! merali will be more useful to Ugandans than our politicians’ ‘poverty eradication programmes' and micro-finance schemes.
