One of Kampala’s biggest social events, The Royal Ascot Goat Race is here again. The function is reputed for attracting top corporate firms.
At a press briefing at Kabira Country Club recently, the event organiser, John Griffin, said this year’s event will be held on Saturday at Speke Resort Munyonyo and the proceeds will go towards a charity cause.
Entry is sh10,000 for adults and sh5,000 for children under 14. Gates open at 12:00pm. Last year, over sh10m went to Sanyu Babies Home, Uganda Deaf Association, Kyadondo Rugby Club for the development of children’s rugby and Lugogo Sports Centre.
This year’s main beneficiaries include Kampala Kids League, Bakateyamba Home in Nalukolongo, Salaama School of the Blind, Kisoga, Mukono and Nsambya Babies Home.
Griffin, flanked by Sudhir Ruparelia, the officials from sponsoring firms, urged companies to contribute generously arguing that the more the contributions, the bigger the remittance to charity.
Raffle prizes include economy class return tickets courtesy of Kenya Airways and KLM to Paris and Amsterdam respectively and two nights for two at Paraa Lodge by Marasa Holdings. Over 40 companies are involved.
