SENIOR presidential advisor on media affairs John Nagenda has decried poor government support for sport.

The veteran cricket and tennis player expressed his displeasure while presiding over the Desbro tennis championship final at Kampala Club on Saturday.

“It is unfortunate the government which I also belong to has let down sports,” said Nagenda after thanking Desbro (U) Ltd for the sponsorship.

“What we have done is very shameful,” stressed Nagenda. “But I am happy that we have some companies like Desbro where we can open our hands,” he noted.

Tugyende emerged top with double victories in the nine-day event sponsored by the industrial chemical company.

The champion won the 50-year-plus category after edging out Dan Rutabingwa 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Tugyende again paired with Rutabingwa to beat Pietero Averono and John Mary Mpagi 7-5, 7-5 for the championships doubles title.

The 35-50-year category title went to James Bayego, who stopped Carey Karungi (6-2, 6-0).
