The violent crime crack unit (VCCU) of police yesterday displayed three guns, a pistol and paraded 14 suspects, five of them private security guards, arrested in connection with various crimes in the last month.

Steven Candia reports that also displayed were two toy pistols, two rounds of ammunition and heaps of army cap replicas and uniforms. The replicas were seized from members of the public, feared to harbour bad intentions.

Addressing journalists, VCCU commandant David Magara also displayed three stolen mobile phones, several automated teller machine (ATM) cards, sim cards, all suspected to have been stolen from women.

Among the suspects paraded was Gule Siek Toha, 26, a prime suspect in the Bugolobi Kobil fuel filling station shooting early this month that claimed five lives.

Toha, a private security guard attached to Security Group and a Senior Six student of Crane High School, Kitintale, was arrested following the August 8 incident.

The grisly incident, the Police said, was fuelled by bitterness after Toha was transferred from the station, two weeks prior to the incident, in connection with theft.

Also paraded was Hakim Juuko, whom Magara said had specialised in stealing ATM cards and withdrawing money after hacking their codes.

Displaying his photograph, Juuko, Magara said, was arrested after he was captured by a Close Circuit Television camera while withdrawing money from an ATM machine.

Magara identified the other suspects as Peter Owara and George Odar, all private security guards attached to Falcon Security and Protectorate SPC, arrested in connection with last month’s robbery of sh25m from an MTN outlet.

Others Magara said were Martin Obwol and Charles Ekwang, all private security guards attached to Paragon Security and Falcon Security respectively.

They were arrested alongside two other suspects, Steven Olar and Michael Ochan, in connection with this month’s robbery of sh30m from Sixth Street industrial area. At the time of arrest, Obwol, he said, was found in possession of two toy pistols.
