My penis is small
Dear Doctor,
My penis is too small compared to my friends’. It is about 4 inches when erect and it also makes a small curve. I can’t satisfy any girl when it is small.
Henry

Dear Henry,
Studies show that most men think their penises are too small.
Unfortunately, people make money from this insecurity by promising to make a person’s penis larger. This is risky. Disfigurement, impotence and other problems frequently occur after these ‘cures’.
Your enjoyment depends on what you have and not what you fantasise having. Your partners’ satisfaction will also depend on how well you use your penis and not on the size.
Penis size when erect depends on the blood in the penis. A few things that you can do to improve the blood flow include: not smoking, eating less fat and exercising regularly. If you are overweight, lose weight. Shaving may also help. But it all boils down to making yourself feel good about the size of your penis. The curve does not matter.

I need allergy experts
Dear Doctor,
I have suffered from allergies for many years. Mine is a skin reaction with lots of goose pimples all over the body and the face. I have tried all sorts of herbal medicine and other drugs, but all in vain. The condition is depressing. I have been told that there is no cure except to identify the cause of the allergic reaction. Are there any allergy experts in Uganda?
W.O

Dear W.O,
Allergies can be very disturbing when one does not know what is causing the reaction. In cases of a skin allergy like this, doctors advise general measures like using special soaps (hypoallergenic) which are not likely to cause reactions, using only cotton clothing and avoiding anything which makes you itch.
Avoid using lots of cosmetics.
Other possibilities include desensitisation and hypo-sensitisation treatment. Here the things that trigger the allergy are introduced to your body in a controlled way so that ultimately you stop reacting to them. A skin doctor (dermatologist) will be able to give you an assessment and refer you to any expert.

Help! I have fibroids
Dear Doctor,
I am 27 years old. I get very heavy periods that go on for 14 days every month. I was told that I have fibroids and that the only solution is to remove them. However, I was also told that scraping the fibroids leads to cancer and it will stop me from giving birth. My health is deteriorating. What can I do?
B

Dear B,
Fibroids are swellings in the uterus. By themselves they may not cause any problems. In fact, many women have them without ill effects. But they can cause heavy and prolonged periods, which lead to a decrease in blood levels (anaemia). Fibroids can also make getting pregnant difficult. An operation is not the only option you have. You should see a gynaecologist who will discuss with you the other options.
