Monica, don’t heap all the blame on men only

SIR — I write in response to Monica Amoding’s article entitled “ABC strategy not working for women” published on August 25. Monica seems to have come from a background where she has had a bad experience with men and wants to make this a general view for all women.

SIR — I write in response to Monica Amoding’s article entitled “ABC strategy not working for women” published on August 25. Monica seems to have come from a background where she has had a bad experience with men and wants to make this a general view for all women.

She might have been hurt by a male relative but wants to portray her experience as if all
women are men’s victims. Her article wants to portray men as the “bad” species of this world. First, she pointed out that about 40.3 million people live with HIV in the world and half are women. This means men are equally affected by HIV since there are only sexes.

Then in her explanation about the ABC strategy, she brings out the fallacy that men dictate about sex in marriage. I want to inform her that the kinds of marriages she refers to are the hopeless broken marriages where the value of being together is no longer important. She also says how adulterous men are and always bring AIDS in the family. Men commit adultery with women, so women too share the blame!
Monica should not use her feminist ideas and bad experiences with men in her life to portray to the world that all men are bad. True, many men may not be decent but we should approach all matters from a balanced point of view. These feminist movements advancing now to portray men as the worst species in the world should not poison our thinking.

SIR — In her article ABC strategy not working for women”, Monica Amoding seems to see the problem of HIV/AIDS as caused by men! I thought after 20 years with the epidemic we had outgrown the stage of passing the buck. Women are not angels.
