COACH Laszlo Csaba’s desperate search for an attacking midfielder has forced him to ask his assistant Jackson Mayanja to come out of retirement and play for Cranes this weekend.

“He could come on later in the game. I am impressed with the things he does in training. He could be of help and because of fitness problems, 10 minutes could do for him on Saturday,” Csaba said about Mayanja’s shock return.

The 35-year old, who announced his Cranes retirement after the Nations Cup qualifier 2-0 defeat to Tunisia in 1999, has in the two months with the team, exhibited skills that have caught the eyes of the German coach.

Mayanjahas played professional football for El Masry and Esperance before retirement.

Mayanja said:“Csaba talked to me about it and if he has decided then I have no problem. I have been training with the team since the preparations started and if he feels I have something to contribute then why not?”

“I want to help Uganda in anyway I can to qualify for the finals in Ghana,” Mayanja added.

Mayanja had since retirement taken to coaching with URA FC, Rwandan side Kiyovu before joining KCC FC this season.

Egyptian-based forward Geoffrey Massa, yesterday ensured Csaba does not suffer a nightmarish start to the campaign when he regrouped with the team at Namboole soon after arriving at 12.20pm.

Massa and Kaizer Chiefs ace David Obua could help resolve the striking predicament that was prevalent in the Cranes in the goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tom Ssemwogerere, Robert Kabanda, Robert Kimuli, Hakim Magumba and Patrick Ochan were dropped from the team.

Uganda Cranes opponents the Lesotho Crocodiles jet in at 2pm today.
