After receiving lots of money for his double album launch last week, renowned dancehall, roots and culture artiste Bebe Cool must be enjoying every moment of this year.

The money from Uganda Breweries, Celtel, Cell 2 Cell, and Garden City Uchumi amounted to about sh52m while Capital FM and Beat FM contributed sh18m in advertisements.

Bebe Cool confessed that it was his first time to receive such an enormous boost and promised to give sh8m to charity. He also plans to use the money for releasing videos for his songs, Kubbe, Oga and Burning.

Bebe Cool has also promised an entertaining launch for his Sente and Fire albums. Sente is a solo effort while Fire is a collaboration with Kenya’s Necessary Noize under the East African Bashment Crew (EABC).

The VIP launch will take place tonight at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds and revellers will pay sh20,000. Gates open at 4:00pm and the show will go on up to midnight.

The second launch will be held at Ggaba Beach on Sunday at a pocket-friendly sh5,000. There will be four screens for the Ggaba launch. Gates will open at 10:00am and performances will start at 1:00pm up to 11:00pm.

EABC first sampled Kubbe in July at Club Silk’s Street Bash. It is now receiving good airplay on some local FM stations. The fast dancehall song has Nazizi of Necessary Noise rapping about situations affecting rastas, while Bebe Cool represents the bad boy image and Wyre, also of Necessary Noise does his love style thing.

Fire, a 13-track album, includes the much acclaimed Fire Anthem and Africa Unite. There are also songs like Bend Down, Jah Jah Love, Pikini Gal Dem, Mama’s Song, Gunshot, Lovey Dovey Business and Eh Boy, Eh Girl.

Bebe Cool says Lovey Dovey is about being serious with love relationships.
Like its title, Gunshot is about violence and weapons.

Fire is essentially reggae, dancehall and lovers’ rock while Sente has songs like Sente and Oga.

Bebe Cool is now one of the few true reggae artistes with a horde of others coming to experiment the genre and then leave it.
