KEFA Sempangi, the former Ntenjeru North MP, expects to reap millions from the sale of 2,000 pigs to hoteliers during the Commonwealth summit next year.
Sempangi said he had spent over sh70m to establish the piggery.
“There will be scarcity of pigs in 2007. The price will rise due to high demand from hoteliers,” Sempangi said.
He said he would not sell the pigs to local butchers.
Sempangi criticised the Government’s liberalisation policy, saying it is killing local entrepreneurship.
He said the policy gives foreign investors with huge capital an edge over locals, who in turn suffer exploitation.
“The Government has not been helpful to local farmers. Foreign investors have been protected a lot and are benefiting at the expense of Ugandans,” Sempangi said.
He said foreign investors should only be allowed to invest in value addition.
While leading journalists on a tour of his farm in Mukono, Sempangi (right) urged the Government to find market for local farm products.
He said aloe vera, pineapples and vanilla were rotting in plantations because there is no market.
“Buffer stocking should also be considered,” Sempangi said.
