Tororo Progressive Academy (TOPA) has registered 8% of the foreign students joining Makerere on private sponsorship this academic year.
The school was ranked second to St. Lawrence Maya in Mukono district according to the 2006/7 foreign students’ private admission list released by Makerere University.
Of the 1,717 foreign students admitted to Makerere over the years, 135 came from TOPA.
The list also shows that Kenya tops the foreign students list with 1,592 students followed by Tanzania with 97 students.
TOPA principal, Swaibu Kitezala said since 1998, there has been an increase of foreign students especially from Kenya.
“Of course this may be due to our good Ugandan education system and the fact that TOPA is located near the boarder with Kenya,” Kitezala said.
Of the 406 students that sat for final examinations last year, all four of the overall best arts students were Kenyans while there were two in sciences.
