THE Government has released sh3b to finalise payments to nursery bed operators who supplied coffee seedlings in 2002/04.

Agriculture state minister, Kibirige Ssebunya said at a stakeholders meeting at the Grand Imperial Hotel that the Government procured Colono Coffee seedlings from private nursery operators and had remained with a debt of sh3b.

Uganda Coffee Development Authority’s managing director, Henry Ngabirano, said seedlings worth sh9b were procured from different operators on credit and supplied to farmers as a strategic intervention in declining prices of coffee on the national and international markets.

“Many of the nursery bed operators were cleared and remained with a debt of sh3b, which the government has released. They were paid in phases beginning with those who supplied first,” Ngabirano said.
