<b>Saudi visas</b><br>KAMPALA - The Saudi Arabian Embassy has suspended issuing visas, following a software breakdown at the embassy.

KAMPALA - The Saudi Arabian Embassy has suspended issuing visas, following a software breakdown at the embassy. A note from Majid Alotadi, the head of Consular Section, addressed to visa applicants and pinned at the embassy’s notice board on Friday said the problem is “beyond the control of the embassy but everything is being done to rectify the problem in the shortest period possible.”

Child neglect
KAYUNGA - The Police have arrested a man over child neglect. Nelson Muguya, 38, of Kawongo village in Garilaaya sub-county is suspected to have locked his son David Wampele, 6, in the house for a week without giving him food. LC3 chief David Mpanga said Muguya’s wife Harriette Sikyomu was still on the run. Mpanga said they rescued Wampele on Friday after a tip off. Wampele was admitted in Bbaale dispensary.

Taxi strike
MITYANA - Passengers travelling from Mubende and Mityana districts to Kampala were yesterday afternoon stranded after taxis stopped plying to the city when drivers begun a strike over speed governors. In Mityana taxi park, business came to halt by 1:00pm. A few taxis which were still loading to Kampala stopped at Bulenga and Busega, a few kilometres to the city. The operating commuters raised fares.

New chief
MPIGI - Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya of Lugazi Diocese was on Saturday installed as the new chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi. He was installed by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala.

DP to fight
MASAKA - Democratic Party (DP) leaders have vowed to fight members with plans to contest in Bukomansimbi by-elections as independent candidates. Uganda Young Democrats district chairman Denis Lukanga Majwala said, “The party leaders shall not accept any members, especially those who would lose in the internal elections, to register as independents. We shall fight them.” The High court in Masaka recently nullified the election of Idi Kisiki Lubyayi as MP for Bukomansimbi county for lack of the requisite academic qualifications.

‘Join forces’
MUKONO - Land forces commander Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala has urged Baganda youth to join security agencies. “Security is a key issue in development. All your investments need to be guarded well but if you do not train people to do so, your efforts may turn fruitless,” Katumba said at the annual Nkima clan get-together at Seeta High School on Sunday. Thousands of clan members, including retired Archibishop Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo, Dr. J.C Muyingo, MPs Issa Kikungwe, Erias Lukwago and city businessman Mutaasa Kafeero attended the function.

LC5 advises
KAYUNGA - Teachers should adopt a saving culture, LC5 chief Thomas Mulondo has advised. This will save them financial crises in old age, he said. He was on Thursday meeting headteachers, teachers and education officials at Bishop Brown Primary School in the town council.
