MUFTI Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has again snubbed a request by the commission of inquiry into illegal sale of properties of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) to meet them in a “neutral” place and testify.

Mubajje prefers to meet the team in his office at Old Kampala rather than Hotel Africana. He allegedly said his security was not guaranteed at the hotel.

The commission has decided to hand over its report to the chairman of the executive committee of UMSC, Hajji Ali Adrama, on Wednesday without Mubajje’s input.

“Ibrahim Kaddunabi led Muslim parliamentary caucus members and held a lengthy meeting with the Mufti, but he rejected the idea of moving to another place other than his office. Now it is up to the commission to proceed,” Dr. Muhammad Mpezamihigo, who heads the probe, said yesterday at Hotel Africana, Kampala, where commission members and lead counsel Bashir Kalenge addressed journalists.

Sheikh Ahmed Yahaya Lukwago and Sheikh Issa Byekwaso, who appeared before the probe, accused Mubajje and UMSC secretary general Edris Kasenene of deliberately refusing to convene the executive committee for two years, while the land deals were going on.
