A COUPLE based in the United Kingdom has donated laboratory equipment and textbooks valued at over 75,000pounds (about 150m) to rural schools, reports Ali Mambule.

John and Angela Smith donated the equipment through the Mobile Science Laboratory Facility operating in the central, eastern and western parts of Uganda.

John Smith, a retired lecturer in England, said he got the equipment, mostly second-hand, from the church-founded laboratory aid in his country.

He said they had given Uganda over 12 consignments of the laboratory equipment, including microscopes, glass ware optics, optical benches, beakers and litmus paper.

Smith handed over some of the materials to Florence Kigongo, the headmistress of St. Anthony SS Kayunga in Masaka district.
