PARLIAMENT on Thursday considered and approved budget allocations totalling to sh3.933trillion for the 2006/07 financial year.

PARLIAMENT on Thursday considered and approved budget allocations totalling to sh3.933trillion for the 2006/07 financial year.

The motion for parliament to resolve itself in a committee of supply to consider the revised revenue and expenditure was moved by the state minister for finance in charge of general duties, Fred Omach.

Districts and the ministries of defence, transport and works and finance took the lion’s share of the national budget, while the ministries of gender and that of information and communication technology got the least funds.

MPs approved sh797b as recurrent expenditure for districts and sh16.6b as development expenditure. Sh342b is recurrent for the defence ministry and sh13.8b for development, while the works and transport ministry got sh80b for recurrent expenditure and sh394b for development.

The finance ministry got sh45.5b recurrent and sh239.4b development, the office of the President received sh25.4b for recurrent and sh2.5b development, State House got sh36.5b for recurrent and sh15.1b for development.

MPs passed sh12.7b as recurrent and sh94b development for the office of the Prime Minister.

Public service received sh342b recurrent and sh13.8b development, foreign affairs was allocated sh69b recurrent and sh776m development and justice got sh8.7b recurrent and sh22.8b development.
