Buildings worth sh240m which were to house the newly-created Nakaseke district headquarters, are wasted at the Government proposed site at Butalangu.

This was due to a disagreement among local leaders over where the headquarters should be located.

The new structures, which were supposed to house both the district headquarters and the town council offices, cannot be occupied due to a July court injunction which bars district authorities from transferring from the provisional headquarters at Kiwoko to Butalangu.

Butalangu in Wakyato sub-county was chosen by both the central Government and Luweero district council, from which Nakaseke was carved out, due to its central location.

But a section of the residents, including LC5 chairman Ignatius koomu, prefers Nakaseke saza headquarters, saying it is what parliament passed. Chief administrative officer Andrew Kyamanywa said on Tuesday they had planned to move into the new offices by August 31.

Residents, mainly from Nakaseke sub-county, in July filed a petition at the high court seeking to halt transfer of the headquarters of the new district.

The President launched works at the 150-acre site for the new headquarters.
