HEAVY rain in Mukono and Kayunga has rendered this weekend’s UMOSPOC Challenge rally rougher than expected.

“Originally 25% of the route was rough but now about 40% is rough. The more it rains, potholes get wider and deeper,” deputy clerk of course Justin Mungoma said in an interview.

Mungoma explained that the route was still good enough for competitors.

“It was not necessary to change the route to eliminate the rough sections. I would only advise competitors who went route reccing early to go back. The route is still good by rally standards.

Potholes make the difference between rallying and Formula 1 which is run on smooth tarmac,” Mungoma said.

The rally, that will start with a super special stage at Kira in Wakiso, has a competitive distance of 190-km.

The super special stage distance has been increased from 4km to 6km to avoid over crowding at viewing points. The second leg on Sunday will cover seven sections in Mukono.

The event, organised by United Motorsport Club (UMOSPOC), is the fifth round of the National Rally Championship.
