PREPARATIONS for the installation of the newly-appointed Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese have been finalised.
Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga will be installed on September 30 at a Mass to be celebrated by his predecessor, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala at Rubaga Cathedral.

Lwanga, who has been in charge of the diocese of Kasana-Luweero, was last month appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, after he (Pope) accepted the resignation of Wamala as archbishop.

Kampala Archdiocese Vicar General Msgr. Paul Ssemwogerere yesterday told journalists at Christ the King community Centre that Wamala would continue to perform clergy duties and reside at Nsambya.

Ssemwogerere, representing the Auxiliary Bishop Christopher Kakooza, said celebrations would cost sh30m and appealed to the public for support.

Flanked by the Kampala Diocese head of laity Robert Ssempa, ssemwogerere said a group of priests from the archdiocese would receive Lwanga on September 30 at River Lumansi, at the border of Kampala and Kasana-Luweero Diocese in Mwelerwe Parish and move in a convoy to Rubaga Cathedral.

He said there would be a brief entertainment at the border before the convoy sets off to Kampala, led by Traffic Police.

Ssemwogerere called upon all parishes, institutions and families to hold special prayers for the new archbishop.

“We shall have a tridum (three days of prayer) starting September 27 to 29, in respect of the archbishop, that God may guide him also in this new assignment,” he said.
