Uganda has troops in Sudan but has not had any troop movement since the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement was signed, the Army spokesman has said.
Maj. Felix Kulayigye was reacting to a kicker that appeared under The Sunday Vision lead story yesterday, saying, “No soldiers in Southern Sudan, says Government”.
Kulayigye said on phone, “I didn’t say we don’t have any troops (in Sudan). We are there as per the agreement of Sudan and SPLA.”
He added, “We have not deployed against the LRA in the assembly point or area they mentioned.”

Lake to rise

The rainy season that has started is expected to raise the level of lake Victoria, weather experts have said.
This is because the heavy rains are expected due to a weak El Nino, a report has shown.
“The intensity is a weak one and its impact will be different from what we got in the 1997-98 El Nino event,” said KR Baryomu, the Commissioner for Meteorology in the weather forecast report released on Friday.
But the report confirmed earlier fears that the country could face devastating effects with severe implications on various socio-economic activities.

He said Guti, himself a Karimojong, would hold consultative meetings with the community and handle complaints that arise from the exercise.
